Visitors are able to enjoy different kinds of food in Beihai, ranging from western food to special local food, and sea food is a must for every newcomer to have a taste.
There are some famous local dishes, like chicken rice, tiger-fish soup, spicy fried shrimp, steamed fresh fish, scalded sand worm, ginger-spotted crab, scalded prawn, steamed sea oyster and steamed fish with plums. Among them, the dish, scalded sand worm, enjoys a highest fame in Beihai. Sand worms, also known as Shachangchong (沙肠虫), is a special kind of sea food, dwelling in the sand of the sea bank.
