Olympic Period Transportation in Beijing 2008
During the Olympic time, ONLY will athletics, journalists and officials be allowed to drive directly to the stadiums. The spectators and tourists will be required to use the subway or special Olympic buses.
Transportation options during the Beijing Olympics are Buses and Subways. The best option is to buy a Public Transportation Card in advance at authorized ticket outlets and recharged it as required. A deposit of 20 yuan (RMB/CNY) is required for each card. Simply add money to the card as needed. Every time when you board a bus or the subway, just swipe your card. When you leave Beijing, you can get a refund both of your card deposit and any unused money. If you choose not to use a card you will need to ensure that you have correct change each time you board a bus or use the subway.
Beijing Subways
The subway in Beijing is efficient and fast way to move around. One line is a circle route and the other runs roughly from east to west. The cost of travelling on the subway is only 2 yuan each time per person. Information is written in English as well as Chinese at the stations. Approaching stations are announced in both Chinese and English onboard the trains.
Beijing Buses
Beijing has a fleet of modern, air-conditioned vehicles, using environmentally friendly fuel systems. The Beijing bus system is more complicated than the subway as it is a maze of different routes. Some buses have conductors, the others have not. The most important thing to know in the correct bus number and the stop you want. The cost of travelling on the subway is only 0.4 yuan per person each time you swiping the card. The cost is 1 yuan each time if paid by cash.
