Sunny weather and less rain at the end of summer makes a good time to go to the outdoor attractions.
The Yuelu Academy: This is an extensive park in Hunan University's campus in Changsha. It is where one of China's first four universities was built in 976, and you can see restored ancient ruins and old architecture, as well as natural scenery on the hill. It is Changsha's favorite attraction.
Wulingyuan Scenic Area: China's most popular and scenic national park is about 4 hours from Changsha. August is a good month to go because the weather is sunny and warm, and there is less rainfall, so you can hike more. The hundreds of high green-topped quartzite rock spires and bluffs inspired generations of painters. Many experienced travelers say the scenery is the best in all of China.
Students are on vacation in August, so expect a lot of children and students at Changsha's attractions and in Zhangjiajie. It is harder to book Changsha flights and reserve Changsha hotel rooms. There are higher prices for flight tickets and rooms, and train tickets are harder to obtain. We could help arrange these for you and arrange a private vehicle if you need one.
