June is a good month to be outside in the parks and national parks in Hunan. Changsha's most popular attraction is Yuelu Park, and the China's top national park is only 4 hours away.
The Yuelu Academy: This is an extensive park on a hill on Hunan University's campus. It is remembered in the country as the site of one of the first four universities. It was built in 976 during the Northern Song Dynasty. It is both Changsha's favorite attraction and one of the easiest to go to.
The Dragon Boat Festival is also called the Double Fifth Festival. It often falls in June. The highlight of the holiday is the racing of long boats with many paddlers. There are races at Changsha in the Xiangjiang River, in Wulingyuan, and in Fenghuang.
