Straightforward application sent by mail or courier is not accepted. If you cannot go in person, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent (with your application materials needed) to transact your application affairs. If there are some special cases (e.g. if the applicant is a baby or a senior who cannot come because of illness), please contact the embassy directly. Besides, for traveling to the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), please contact TAR Tourism Bureau (tel: +86-891-6834313, fax: +86-891-6834632) beforehand and provide the entry permit required.
An original copy of passport (with enough blank visa pages, and at least another 6 months’ validation.), a neatly filled out form of Tourist (L) Visa Application of People’s Republic of China, a recent 2×2(in.)-sized color passport photo( white in background, with a full front view of the applicant's head and shoulders but without any head cover), and a fully completed copy of Visa Application Form signed by the actual applicant; for every application prepared by a travel agency, the agency's seal and proper signature of the actual applicant are both required
Visa Fees are charged: C$50 for Single Entry; C$75 for Double Entry; C$40 for Group Visa; C$100 for6-month Multiple; C$150 for 12-Month Multiple. US passport holders will be charged $140 for applying individual visa (types of visa notwithstanding), and $120 for applying group visa (with at least five members entering and exiting China together). Personal checks are not acceptable. Please pay by debit card, cashier's check or company check and money order.
Visas can be picked up on or after the pick-up date on the receipt .Pay the fees when pick up visas.
You need to go to the Consular Section of the Embassy or Consulate-General which holds consular jurisdiction over the districts where you live. See figure below. Addresses, etc. follow the office hours info.
The embassy and the consulates generally have different visa section office hours. But generally they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and the following holidays: New Year's Day, Spring Festival, Family Day, Tomb-sweeping Day, Good Friday, International Labor Day, Victoria Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Canada Day, Labor Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese National Day, Thanksgiving, Boxing Day.
