I once traveled china and visited the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing, but simply found it's not my sort of thing. it has been rebuilt and dressed up for tourists and filled with tourists at that time. somebody told me the great wall in Shanhaiguan, near Lanzhou is much more authentic and see fewer visitors. but where is the best and most authentic section to see.

The Mutianyu Section Great Wall lies about 70 kilometers ( 43, 4 miles ) northeast [image]http://www.great-wall.org/images/mutianyu22s.jpg[/image]of Beijing in Huairou County. This section measures 2,250 meters in length with 22 watchtowers, but now only 1, 700- meter ]ong wall with 14- watchtowers is open to the public. Most of tourists visit Mutianyu Greatwall.

yes, Simatai section of great wall sees more visitors nut in another word, it more crowded which may not be a ideal place for many. if you want to check some authentic walls,  I think you'd better go to the far west portion of the wall. many deserved walls was reported spotted in the area.

BTW, you can read Ruru's message "  [link=http://www.chinahighlights.com/community/tm.asp?m=1067][color=#336699]The places you should not miss in Beijing [/color][/link]  ". She said right.

China's capital offer so much to visitors. sometimes you just find it hard to decide to include which sights in your tour for all of them with their own unique styles, charm woth seeing. I once traveled Beijing with one of my classmate and we looped around the Hutong area, and you know, that part of old beijing offer something which is quite opposite to what you see in the city center. inside the quadrangle, a kind of building complex, comprised of a big courtyard in the middle and houses arounding, simple life goes on, huddle of men playing chess, old grany pushing cabbage cart...anyway, those was what i saw a few years ago which may have changed now, but beijing is quite worth a trip.
