You can never miss Giant Panda Breeding Research Base if you travel to Tibet. It seems incredible when you see the message. Because it locates in Chengdu while Chengdu is the connecting point for a Tibet trip if you take flights in and out of Lhasa.
It is the research and breeding center for giant and lesser pandas. The base was set up in 1987 and was first opened to the public in 1995. About 40 pandas currently reside at the base. Number of new babies were born to the family this autumn. If you are lucky enough, you will see some of them lean close to their mothers' belly.
The best time to visist is morning, because 9:30 is their feeding time. Otherwise you may only see the sleeping pandas. The research base is around 10km away from Chengdu. You can also pay a visit there is you only past Chongqing when taking a cruise on Yangtze. Cycling and hiking is not recommended, the best way is to contact a travel ageny and get transfer arranged before hand.

Interesting! Is it possible to visit them in winter? Will they sleep in the cold days? Could they find anything to eat in the horrible snow days?
