I heard that you need to have a "expert certificate" in order to be hired by a Chinese state run company, otherwise the Chinese Government will not give permision for the company or school to hire any foreigners to work in China. I don't know whether this is the same case for privately owned company. I know some private schools in Yangshuo, they hire native english speakers to be their teachers, I don't think they stick to "certificate of education". Well, check out their web site: www.ysabc.net or contact them: 86-773-8821790 8826924 fax:86-773-8821790, and wish you good luck.
Why not showing them your highest qualification? It will make sense. As far as I know, only Chinese are required to obtain such certificates. Of course, China issued strict regulations for teachers. You need to know the relevant knowledge when looking for such kind of job. Good luck!
If you want to work in China you need a “Z” visa, normally issued at a Chinese Consulate or Embassy abroad, and a Residence Permit for Foreigners, issued after you get here. The RPF is based on your arrangements with your employer. Generally speaking you’d need either a degree, a TEFL certificate or a Foreign Experts Certificate to qualify as a teacher for your Z visa and Residence Permit. Your employer also must be licensed to employ foreigners. The Foreign Experts Certificate may be issued in some areas, eg where there is a shortage of English teachers, if your employer considers that although you may not have a degree you are qualified to teach under Chinese law - just as long as the school can justify the need, and reason for hiring you. At the same time, obviously, the better the school the higher they can set the bar. There are schools that may hire English teachers who are not necessarily qualified, or do not have the correct permits. However, it’s not legal, and the school may not even be licensed, or allowed to hire foreign teachers in the first place. You’d have to wonder about schools that would take people who are not experienced or qualified… apart from the risk that you run from the law (fines and deportation), there’s a lot of horror stories about unauthorized schools. You have no guarantee of pay, conditions or anything else. http://www.china-tesol.com/How_to_get_a_Job/More_on_jobs_/Vacancies/vacancies.html has alot of information on PRC requirements for foreign teachers, and there are a lot of other good websites.
