Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) is coming

Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) of ox falls on Jan 26th, 2009. Though there are still two months to go, Chinese people are preparing the celebration now. The most important thing is going home. No matter how long they are stay away form their family and no matter how busy they are, they will go back to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
Not every one can go home for Chinese New Year. In China the people who continue working during New Year celebration but not going home  are considered as heros.

Also are the any places where we can buy Chinese New Year goods?

An older gentleman who helped me move a 120 year old grandfather clock that I inherited recently told me that I should not use the clock, wind it or anything, until I get the gears oiled and cleaned up...they are grinding too much.  HOWEVER, he was VERY serious when he told me to make sure I wind it just enough to bong at midnight at "my" new years eve, and then stop the clock right after until he can come back to work on it.  He seemed VERY serious about this, but with no explanation.  He did mention his celebration of the chinese new year.  I have found nothing on the importance of me having a clock in my house and making sure it bonged at midnight on new years.  I am very intrigued as to why this is...and would love to know more about it.  Could be his own personal belief...not neccessarily a superstition.  I love it!  Anyway...if anyone else knows something about this, I would love to know more!  Thanks!

I could say it is saying that something like Keep the Fire over night from the last minute of the Year to the very beginning of next year. A saying in China means that you need to keep things Going On and never drop or broke. It will bring you happiness, fortune, peace, etc in the coming New Year.  People during that time always put their good wishes to everything they could see and hope good luck will be with them in the new year.

It is always very hard to buy a ticket during new year. The price is the same. The price is about  CNY20 for hard seat, CNY30 for hard sleeper and CNY60 for soft sleeper.
