I plan next year (August-December) bicycle expedition on Tibet (probably from Kashgar to Lhasa). Knows anybody what is the current situation concernig enter in Tibet for independent travellers ? Is possible enter in Tibet over checkpoints and get permit e.g. in Ali (pay fine, of course), or isn't do it as before 2008 ?
Thanks for any news.

Hi, what a great plan to do that . I'd like to join in, but no time. Forget to escape the Tibet Permit, seriously you will be punished when found. Get your Permit before you do that. Pay some money to a travel agent to get it. It is helpful.
