The Hanging Coffin

Famous Hanging Coffin Sites : While hanging coffins can be found in many places in China, the strange thing is all of them only existed for a certain period in history. Those in Wuyi Mountain are the first appear in China, as early as in the Zhou Dynasty (1027-777BC) while those in Gongxian County of Southwest china's Sichuan province are the most recent, which also marked the end of the hanging coffin custom.

i once took a boat trip from Chongqing to Wuhan and saw a coffin hanging high up in the sheer cliff by the river. my guide told me that the it's coffin of some respectable leader of a barbarian group livin gin that area in ancient time.

why they put coffin on a cliff? Nobody can answer  correctly  now.Two  popular  reasons like that-one is they can go to heaven easier if  they near the sky; the other is somebody stay higer afer death means like the sun.moon and star.so they can protect their childs ,
