I add something to fullfill your Chengdu tour.
Grand Buddha is also a must see in Chengdu. It carved into a cliff, overlooking the confluence of Dadu river and Min River. The gorges Buddha is 71m high with 7m long ears, 8.5m broad insteps and 8.5m long toes. You can even picnic on the nails. The mammoth project began in AD 713 and the total construction time is over 100 years. The engineer, a monk called Haitong organized the fundraising and hired workers in the hope of subduing the swift currents at the confluence and protect the boatmen. Magicaly, much less accident happened with the Buhhda sitting there.
It worthing viewing it from several angles, looking from the river front, looking up by taking a short cruise and climbing up to touch the buddha.
It is a pity that I didn't climb up to the top because of my bad knees. Anybody who has done the visit can share with experience with me? Your work will be highly valued.
