The area is indeed fantastic, snow mountains, dense forests, luxuriant grasslands on which herds of yaks graze, things like that but I have heard an Lonly Planet author dispeared while trekking near Minya Konka Mountain, also known as the Gongga Mountain.

I just returned from a trip to west Sichuan and we included the Hailuogou sight in our itinerary. it's fantastic and i will recommend to anyone. There are huge glaciers.
