Hello, Jee, It depends where you depart that means in which place you take your train. There are currently several trains heading for Tibet including, Beijing-Lhasa, Guangzhou- Lhasa, Shanghai-Lhasa, Chengdu/Chongqing-Lhasa and Xining-Lhasa. Train from Beijing to Lhasa should take you the longest time of around 50 hours while the shortest way from Xining to Lhasa only takes about 20 hours.

Please be adviced that train ticket is extremely hard to get now.

Hello Jee, I am glad to answer your question now! It is a very good choice to travel in September. The beautiful scenery of Tibet can be a life-time experience in your mind. There are different departure places and the time needed are different too. If you departed from Beijing west, it will take you about 48 hours and Xining about 27 hours. If you take a train in Lanzhou, it will take about 30 hours and Chongqing 47 hours. It will take about 50 hours from Chengdu.
