how long can I stay in Tibet?

Also, how long can I stay in Tibet? I heard that the tibet permit only allows 10days.. Is the permit only RMB50/pax?
I would like to explore tibet on my own, so is it ok if i join a short package tour then move around tibet on my own?
What are the places that are open for me to move around since some places are restricted.

The Tibet permit cost 50 rmb/pax. Foreign travelers are not allowed to trave alone in Tibet on their own. With your permit you can walk around Lhasa. If you are planning  trip to the following areas you need to apply for another permit-Tibet Travel Permit.

Tsetang: Samye Monastery, Tomb of Tibetan King, Changdruk Temple, Yumbulakhang
Shigatse: Sakya Monastery, The MT Everest, Rongbuk Monastery
Gyangtse: Pelkor Chode Monastery & Kubum Stupa
Nqari Region
Basumtso lake in Nyingchi Region
Chamdo Region
