4. Big Bell Temple, Beijing

The Big Bell Temple is situated in Beisanhuan Xilu (western section of the North 3rd Ring Road), approximately two kilometers east of Haidian Road. When the temple was first built in 1733, it was called the Temple of Righteous Awakening. In 1743, during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, a giant bell was transferred from the Temple of Longevity (Wanshousi) to this temple. From then on, it has commonly been referred to as the Big Bell Temple. .

Biyun Temple or the temple of Azure Cloud, is locater near the Fragrant Hills Park. Its magnificent and elegant pagoda-halls were first built in 1331 of the Yuan Dynasty with the original name of Biyun Nunnery. It was expanded in the reigns of the Yude and Tianqi Emperors in the Ming Dynasty and in 1748 during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. Covering a space of 40,000 square meters, the buildings are set against the hill and rise in layers. .
