Stanley was the largest settlement on the Hong Kong Island about one hundred year ago. The Hong Kong contingent of British troop was stationed here during the British rule. The place now has become a main excursion destination for the people who live in the high rises in Hong Kong and Kowloon, to escape to the area's not-so-crowded beach and free market. The important Dragon Boat race is held at Stanley during the annual Dragon Boat Festival.

Tai O is a small island southwest of Lantau Island. It is the first developed fishing village and renowned as the "Venice of Hong Kong". Numerous small boats and sampans are moored on the tiny harbor. The majority of the residents are Hakka, some of whom still make their living from fishing. In the center of the village are many traditional stilt houses and houseboats. The rope-towed ferries across a narrow channel are still pulled by older Hakka women like hundreds of years ago. Tai O is the most popular place for locals to buy fresh seafood.

Victoria Peak, located in the Midwest District, is the highest point on Hong Kong Island. It is the best place for a bird's eye view of Victoria Harbor and the whole island. The night scene with the harbor and high rises all lit up by dazzlingly neon lights is fabulous.
