Pingyao Ancient City Video
Pingyao is an ancient city located in central Shanxi Province, 700 kilometers from Beijing. It boasts a long history of over 2,700 years. The ancient city wall was originally constructed in the year 1370 at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty. The six-kilometer long wall was built with rammed earth inside and brick and stone outside. It has been standing there for 600 years through the flames and battering of war and natural erosion. Glints and flashes of swords and spears, flames and explosions of war have become things of history. The military function of this strong and high city wall has become redundant. Now the old wall presents to modern generations the changing of the dynasties and way of life that has occurred in the past thousand years.
