Daocheng belongs to alpine monsoon climate, with sunny days the main weather feature. The annual average temperature ranges from 11.5 °C (52.7 °F) to 12.8 °C (55.04 °F). The coldest month is January whose temperature can plummet to minus 27. Summer is very comfortable, even in the hottest month of July, the average temperature ranges from 10 °C (50 °F) to 12.1 °C (53.6 °F). Rainy season comes from June to August, during which time travelers are warned to avoid the area because landslides happens regularly in the region after heavy rains.

The best time to visit Daocheng is from September to October and from April to May.

In September to October, Daocheng is covered by a colorful carpet of fall foliage. The expansive red grass and golden poplar tree forest mingle over the land, whose beauty is enhanced by the blue and clear sky. This it the best time to view the three snow mountain peaks in Yading. At dusk and morning, the sun set on the snow mountain, which give off golden light.

September and October are the best seasons to take photos in the region because most days see sunshine. The temperature during this period ranges from 5 °C (41 °F) to 20 °C (68 °F), and temperature in Yading National Reserve is around 5 °C (41 °F). Temperature differs greatly between day time and night, you need to bring coat with you.

Spring (April and May)

Various flowers blooms make this period a good time to visit.

Tips: most travelers will be stricken slightly by high altitude sickness because of the high elevation of the region.

I planing to docheng this December 7th, I need a car from chengdu so may I know much for this? Is possible on this time we go for travel in docheng and the last shangrila?

This is Sammi.

The average temperature for Daocheng is minus 5 degree for december.

As for Shangri-la, the temperature would be minus 10 degree, most of the hotels are colsed for work from the end of November due to the harsh weather condition.

It is not the best time for both Daocheng and Shangri-la.

We can arrange a private van for you from Chengdu to Daocheng, which is over 12 hours drive.

Can you let me know how many people are there in the group?
