Paulownia Lacquerware (桐木漆器)
Paulownia Lacquerware, one of the most exquisite folk crafts in China, has a long history of more than 2000 years. It follows the traditional folk craft, and is made of paulownia wood, which is painted with Chinese lacquer. Lacquerwares in various forms produced in Dengfeng have been popular at home and abroad. They feature none-distortion, none-crack, acid resistance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance.
Shaolin Ginkgo Leaf Tea
The gingko tree has been praised as the “living fossil” in China. Because ginkgo leaves can reduce blood lipid and cholesterol, they have long been regarded as a king of herbal drug by traditional Chinese medicine. Songshan Shaolin Temple has planted ginkgo trees, and has drunk ginkgo leaf tea since the founding of the temple (about 1500 years ago). Shaolin Ginkgo Leaf Tea following the essence of Shaolin medication selects non-polluting newly-born leaves of old ginkgo trees as its raw materials.
Although weapons in Shaolin Temple would be great souvenirs if they could be taken home, for the troubles from the security inspection of the aerospace, automotive and rail transport, visitors are suggested to buy some local products, like prayer beads, chestnuts, jujubes and Hericium erinaceus.
