Hi! Taking bus is the best way as there is no direct train from Dalian to Chengde. As far as I know the depart time is 16:30 at Construction Street (Jianshejie) Bus Station near Dalian Railway Station.

July is one of the summer monthes in Dalian. It is the rainy season, with hot and humid weather. It is relatively cooler than cities in South China. Since summer is the rainy season, there are frequent rainfalls, most of which happen at night. Prepare any summer clothes, such as shorts, skirts, T-shirts, sandals, hats, sunglasses, and umbrella. There is no special festival in July there.

I want to travel from Dalian to Shiyan by train. How long does it take and what is teh cost? Is there fast train available?
There is no direct train from Dalian to Shiyan, you should firstly take train K369 from Dalian to Hankou(Wuhan). The train leaves at 13:40 and arrive in Hankou at 17:51, duration 28 hrs. the price is CNY686 per person for soft sleeper, you should stay one night in Wuhan, next morning, you can take bullet train D5211 which leaves at 8:30am and arrive in at 12:28pm, the price is CNY 181 per per for soft seat.
