I am a Australian Citizen (using Australia Passport), but also have a Hong Kong Permanent resident ID card. I am planning to travel to Hong Kong from Australia and then join a tour in Hong Kong to Beijing/Shanghai/Guilin/Xi An (approx 8 days tour). Do I need to apply a visa to China? If so, do I have to do this in Australia? Or can I do this when I am in Hong Kong?

Asked by MW on Jul. 24, 2014
Lussie Lu (Jul. 25, 2014) replied:
Dear Sir or Madam, If you hold a Hong Kong Permanet resident ID to enter mainland China, you also need to apply for a Home Return Permit. You could apply it or China visa in Hong Kong, it takes about 5 days. If this will affect your trip, I suggest you apply it in Australia in advance.

i love natural (non man-made) wonders, like caves and waterfalls and lakes, and mountains. But i don''t want to just look at them. I also would like to swim in the lake or hike the mountains or explore the caves. Are the natural wonders in china open to the public for swimming or canoeing or scuba diving or hiking, etc. Like if I go to Li River n Guilin; may I swim there?

Asked by carlos on Jul. 17, 2014
Lussie Lu (Jul. 18, 2014) replied:
Dear carlos, Based on your need, Guilin is a good place for you. You could visit Reed Flute Cave and hike in Yangshuo, but I don't suggest you swim in Li river because of the safety problem, though many local people swim there.

Is there a bus from Longsheng or Longji Rice terraces to Fenghuang? Or I need to come back to Guilin in order to get bus to Fenghuang? Can I take a taxi to Fenghuang from Longsheng and how much it will cost?

Asked by Andrey Bogdanov on Jun. 24, 2014
Michael Hu (Jun. 24, 2014) replied:
Hi Andrey, There is no bus from Longsheng or Longji Rice terraces to Fenghuang. There is no direct bus from Guilin either. I suggest that you take a bullet train from Guilin to Liuzhou. Then transfer a train from Liuzhou to Jishou. After you arrive at Jishou, take a bus to Fenghuang. It's more than 600KM from Guilin to Fenghuang. I don't think any taxi will provide the service.

Dear Yvonne, It is autumn in Guilin during that period. The temperature ranges from 20℃ to 30℃. It is hot in the day and cool at night. There are many hills in Guilin, and you need to walk a long time for visiting, so I suggest you'd better wear sport shoes.

Asked by thany on Jun. 17, 2014
Carol Guan (Jun. 18, 2014) replied:
July is one of the hottest months in Southern China, where Guangzhou and Guilin are located. The average temperature is 32℃. For more about July weather, please check here: http://www.chinahighlights.com/weather/july.htm Guilin is one of the most popular tourist cities in China, famous for its natural beauty and minority groups. Besides the clean river and green mountains, you can also have a visit to the terraced fields and a biking tour to the countryside to have an insight view of local life. Kids could have fun biking or hiking or visiting local market and have a Chinese calligraphy lesson. I am sure you will have fun here. Most souvenir vendors could speak a little bit English, while taxi drivers or staff in supermarket or shopping mall can’t speak any English. I am happy to make a tour proposal for your family if you could provide some more details, such as which hotel style you want to stay, and you want to have full board or just daily breakfast. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions. Carol
