Q & A about Guilin by Our Customers
Topic From: Longsheng Transportation
I would like to know the prices of a taxi from Guilin to Longsheng and stopping in Sianjang 1 hour or two.
Asked by Ana on Jul. 19, 2010
Longsheng is about 90 kilometers far from Guilin, and taxi drivers probably are reluctant to take you there regarding the long distance and road condition. It is not that the road is bad but that it happens that the road would be closed in rainy days for safety concerns. I advisor you take a tour, which will save you lots of hassle.
Longsheng and Sanjiang are a bit far from Guilin, Guilin-Longsheng takes about 3 hours, Longsheng-Sanjiang takes about 2 hours, then it takes about 4 hours to go from Sanjiang back to Guilin. It is impossible to visit them all within 1 day. Therefore, it is suggested that you stay one night in Longsheng, and continue the trip the next day.

I want to buy tickets (Train or Bus) to Guilin from Shenzhen. Can it be done at the station in Luo hu? Any suggestions? How safe the bus journey will be?
Asked by Juni on Jul. 19, 2010
1. You can take Train T38 or Train T39 in Luohu Train Station. Everyday, time for departing is 5:51 p.m., and arriving at Guilin 06:42 a.m. the next morning.
2.You also can take a bus in Luohu qiaoshe Station (罗湖侨社汽车站), the bus with air-conditioner sleepers sets off at 07:30p.m.everyday; there are more buses Yinhu Station which can meet different departure times.
About safety, as the saying goes “Caution is the parent of safety”. Generally speaking, buying a ticket in the station and take a bus belonging to a formal passenger depot, it would be all right.
Yes, you can buy the train tickets from Shenzhen to Guilin at Shenzhen Luohu Railway Station. You also can buy it from our website: http://www.chinatravel.com/china-travel-tools/china-trains/. We do not recommend the bus journey to you. Because that's for domestic tourists, and the train journey would be more comfortable and safer.

what is the history of chineese food?
Asked by hardik on Jul. 5, 2010
According to Wikipedia, the history of Chinese cuisine in China traced back to Peking Man and his use of fire and the invention of "cuisine" some 400,000 years ago. Some other accounts of the history of Chinese cuisine takes the beginning to the Chinese stone age, where the cultivation of rice and the production of noodles, both typical representations of Chinese cuisine as we have known today, are understood from archaeological findings.
There are eight styles of distinct regional cooking in China. Of them, the most influential and representative ones are the culinary styles of Lu, Chuan, Yue, Min, Su, Zhe, Xiang and Hui.
Each culinary style is inseparable from its long history and influenced by geography, climate, resources, specialties and dining habits of each area. Some descriptions of the eight culinary schools are: the cuisines of Jiangsu and Zhejiang have been compared to delicate beauties of the Yangtze River Delta; those of Shandong and Anhui have been compared to simple but sturdy men of the north; those of Guangdong and Fujian are compared to elegant nobles; those of Sichuan and Hunan are likened to people with substantial and varied accomplishments.
The cooking techniques of each of the Chinese culinary schools are unique and the dishes have their own distinguished characteristics.

I plan to travel to guilin in two days time, with the recent flood happening in Guilin, is it advisable to go as plan? How bad is the flood?
Asked by Simon on Jun. 22, 2010
Hi. Welcome to Guilin! Yes the tour can go as planned. Though there is heavy rain recently, there are still many tourists going tours in Guilin. But it is not recommended to go to Longji Rice Terraces, because it is located in mountainous area, it is not safe to go there in case of mudslide. Other places are all smooth and safe.

Hi,I am from malaysia, visiting Guilin on 25th Jun 10. how is the weather there. heard news of some serious flooding and heavy rain in Guanxi provience, Is Guilin effected.
Asked by jimmy teh on Jun. 20, 2010
Hello Jimmy. Welcome to Guilin. Yes it is indeed been raining heavily these days in Guilin, and at some point water level was so high that Li River cruise had to be stopped. But the rain did not stop tourists, I saw many of them these days.
It is getting better now because the rain is smaller when you visit. But you should still prepare umbrellas or raincoats. Also it is very hot now in Guilin, wear what you wear in summer in your country.
