Hi Lee, Glad to know that you will visit Kunming, I recommend the following sights for your reference, Stone Forest A fantastic natural phenomena located 90 km southeast of Kunming. The various shapes of karst landscape was formed due to the millions years movement of Earth. The Stone Forest area is the home of the Sani people, their folk customs has become one spectacular scene, the colorful embroidery and minority dances combine with the natural sceneries, which will surely leave you a deep impression. The Jiuxiang Caves The Jiuxiang Caves are situated in Jiuxiang Township, about 70 kilometers from Kunming. There are more than one hundred karst caves in Jiuxiang scenic area. The caves at Jiuxiang are the largest cave group system in China. Inside the cave are many well-developed and wonderful stalactites and stalagmites, which look like pretty fairies welcoming their guests. Names have been given to them such as "Fairies Welcoming Guests", "Woman Weaver", and "The Fairy is coming out of bathing". Green Lake Park Located just opposite the Yunnan University, it is one of the most picturesque parks in downtown Kunming. There are nine spring outlets at north of the lake, so it was also named "Nine Dragon Pond" in ancient times. Here you may take a leisure walk or enjoy the performance(playing Taiji, Majion and local operal ) by local people. In November and December every winter, huge flock of red-beaked gulls migrate here from Siberia, constructing a nice scene. Hi chew, The distance from Kunming airport to railway station is not far. You can get there both by bus and taxi. Take the bus of NO.52 or NO.67 at the airport, and get off at Chuncheng Road Stop(春城路站),then walk towards west for six or seven minutes, you can find railway station. Taking taxi is more convenient and can save time. It will costs you about 15 yuan. Besides, you should book the ticket to Lijiang in advance in case the shortage of the tickets. China Highlights provides various pickup & transfer services using independent cars/vans and guides, and also offers flight/train tickets and hotel booking services. Dear Jess, There is one bus every day. You can take a bus at Kunming north bus station, located at Longtou street, Panlong district, Kunming(盘龙区龙头街). It takes about 12 hours and it costs about CNY240(US$38) per person. You also can take a train. It takes about 20-21 hours and it costs about US$59 for the soft sleeper. It's more comfortable to take a train than take a bus. More details about the train: http://www.chinahighlights.com/china-trains/search-result.asp

No direct bus or train from Kunming to Jiuxiang, need connect at Yiliang city. Kunming Xin Dongbu Bus Station to Yiliang, available every 30 minues, price is around CNY15.00 per person, then connect the local bus #21 to Jiuxiang, available every 30 minutes, price is CNY6-10 per person. If it is just one day tour to and return from Kunming, we would suggest join in a local group tour or hire a taxi to (CNY500-600 for one day). Karen

Hi, Santanu. Thank you for your question on this issue. But I have search it on the Internet, I can not find any info about the procedure of participation in this festival that published by the official organization. I have learnt that this festival is organized by Yunnan Tourism Administation. Generally speaking, all the performance team should applied to the organizer for participation and get permission. Maybe, you can get more information from their website: http://en.ynta.gov.cn/default.aspx
