Hello, We already planned a tour from Kunming to Zhongdian. From Zhongdian wewant to go back by train or by bus to Kunming .If possible we like to start in the morning time,so we can see more from the Countryside. Is it possible for bookinga train or bus ? We are two people and we need to reach Kunming the 24.of marchin the early afternoon ( 3 p.m. ).How long time does it take from Zhongdian to Kunming ?Would be nice to hear from you.many regards , Dieter Schiller
Dear Schiller,
There is no train from Zhongdian to Kunming, but you could take the bus. There are lots of each day, each hour per one from 9 am. The price is about CNY 200 and about 10 hours. You could buy the ticket directly from Shangri-la bus station.

Hi there,I want to go from Kunming to Luang Namtha in Laos. Is there a bus going directly or do I have to go to Jinghong first? If I go to Jinghong, I would likely prefer a sleeper over night so was wondering from whitch station they depart and whether there is any time schedule existing? Moreover, would it be possible to buy bus tickets in advance cause I heard during high season they might also be booked out earlier. Or is it possible to buy a bus ticket departing in the evening, on the same day I arrive in Kunming? I will likely arrive Kunming in the morning.Thank you for your help,Yanick
Hi Yanick,
There is no direct bus or train from Kunming to Luang Namtha. But there is one direct bus from Kunming Naoyao bus station(昆明市南窑汽车站) to luang prabang each day, departing at afternoon, arriving at about night the next day. You could call this number 0871-3510739 to the bus station for more information.
This is the international bus, an early booking is appreciated.
For your information, we could not offer ticket booking only.
Regards,
Coco

Hi Whitney
Thanks for the infomations about Kunming. How far is it to go to Shangri-La from Kunming?
Hi Derrick, it is a perfect time to visit Kunming. The average low and high temperatures are respectively 15 °C (59 °F) and 23 °C (73 °F). The rainy months have ended and the weather is fine. T-shirts and long trousers are appropriate, and with a moderate wind, it is not too hot or too cool. The sun is shining so if you go out, use sunscreen with SPF 20 and PA++ to protect your skin.
Places of interesting: the Stone Forest, Green Lake Park, The Grand View Tower, The Dragon Gate on Xishan/West Hill, Yuantong Temple, Bamboo Temple, etc.

we plan to visit Yunnan end May 2013. we only have 8 days to cover Kunming, Lijiang & Shangrila. we ''ll arr Kunming, spend 2 nite there. than go to Lijiang. what is the best way from Kunming to Lijiang? by flight or train? how long it would take by train? & what is the cost? spend 2 nites in Lijiang. we plan to go Shangri La. is there any train from Lijiang to Shangri La? spend 2 nights in Shangri La,than fly back to Kunming. is this planning good?
Dear Abbie,
Thank you for your inquiry.
1. From Kunming to Lijiang:
There are flights and trains, the train cost about CNY90-CNY230 according to the class of seat, and takes about 9 hours. In my opinion flight is better, the flight takes about CNY1200 but we can always get good discount, occasionally if we are lucky, it is cheaper than the train.
2. From Lijiang to Shangri-La:
There is no train between these two cities, only buses and flights are available. The Bus takes 3.5h- 4h and about CNY65.
3. For the itinerary:
Your plan is good, but you have 8 days, I recommend you add one city. Are you interested in minority people? Dali is famous for Bai people, and we usually arrange Dali with Lijiang and Kunming, and 8 days are perfect for the tour.
For your reference, here is a package tour, if you are interested in it, please feel free to contact me at: doris@chinahighlights.net

I’m looking forward to hear from you!
