Hi, we plan to travel to Shangri-La in this June 2013, but we will take a train from Beijing to Chengdu. It would be possible to take a bus from Chengdu to Shangri-La. We plan to travel from the Chengdu-Shangri-La-Dali-Lijiang-Kunming and back to Bangkok. Could you please give some advice.

Hello,I found out that the overnight train from Kunming to Lijiang has vip rooms. This is the website i found the pictures on: http://www.hkitalk.net/HKiTalk2/viewthread.php?action=printable&tid=518528. Its a cabine for 3 persons. Since we are travelling with our 7 year old daughter, it would be ideal for us! I saw several websites to book train tickets, but there is never an option to book these vip rooms. Can anyone please help? It would be for the 1st of April.

Hi Carry, The best seats on the overnight train from Kunming to Lijiang are soft cabins with 4 soft sleepers in each cabin. We do not offer train ticket booking service only, but we could book tickets for you in a tour package. Dear Sir or Madam, You could go to Hong Kong from Kaifeng for getting your visa restamped at first, then fly to Kunming. You could take a flight or a train to Lijiang, and then fly to Chongqing. At last go back to Kaifeng. You could search the time schedule of the flight or train on our website. Hello, I''ll be in Shangri-la , coming from Lijiang, on 27march2013. thanI will leave for Chengdu. Is there a plane from Shangri-la to Chengdu on 30/03/2013? I cannot understand how far is the airport from the town of Shangri-la. Another solution could be to come back to Lijiang on 29/03/2013, but I would prefer to take the plane, if possible, as I already came by bus from Lijiang. Can you help me?

I am planning to visit Shangrila and Dahli, Lijiang on Jan 19-24 for 6 days. How should I dress? Is it cold? what weather can I expect? Is it possible to visit places around the town at that time or will it snow and difficult to travel out?

Whitney Liao (Jan. 16, 2013) replied:
Hi MANEEKANT, generally, January is not very cold in these cities. The minimum temperature is 2 °C (36 °F) and the maximum temperature is 16 °C (61 °F). But there may be snow in Shangrila.  A coat with a woolen sweater is suitable during the day. However, given the large temperature difference between day and night, better prepare more warm clothing. It is no problem to visit places around the town at that time.

Hi, Im going to Yunnan on the 2nd of February 2013, I land in Kunming and plan on visiting Dali, Lijiang (briefly as I want to get straight out of there and to Xu He (small city close to it - my pinyin maybe wrong)) and then Shangri La. What would be your best advised route? Im thinking Dali first and Shangri La last.My flight out of Kunming leaves the morning of 13th Feb, would it be possible to fly out of Shangri La and back to Kunming? Alternatively, as I have to come back to Ningxia, are there any trains that would make their way back here? I dont plan on spending much time in Kunming at all, mainly Dali, Xuhe and Shangri La, do you think the 10 days I have (including buses etc) would be enough to cover it? Thanks in advance!

Hi Hamza, 10 days would be enough to cover it. The route is excellent: Kunming-Dali-Lijiang-Shangri-La-Kunming. You can fly directly from Shangri-La back to Kunming. There are also direct flights between Yinchuan (in Ningxia Province) and Kunming.

Hi, We would like to travel from Kunming (2 nights) - Dali (1 night) - Lijiang (2 nights) back to Kunming (depart on the same day by 5pm flight). Is it possible for 4 of us to complete our sight seeing within 6 days? We dont mind travel by overnight VIP train or bus. Our flight departs Kunming at 5pm. Please recommended us some downtown hotels near food streets and shopping malls in Kunming, Dali and Lijiang range US45. to US50. Any better suggestion is very mush appreciated.

Hmmm...I''ve read the bus takes 6 hours and that the new roads are okay, except maybe the first 30-60minutes. Or, are the roads actually still scary? I''m planning to visit next month (Feb) and would like to know in advance.

Hi. The new road between Lijiang and Lugu lake is still under repairing. The stretch from Lijiang to Ninglang(宁蒗)is okay. But the other part between Ninglang and Lugu lake is still a little scary.
