Topic From: are there any mens tailors in suzhou? look...
1 Answer

Hi, I am visiting Suzhou in Oct , and is looking for a good place to tailor a silk qipao (maybe with some embroidery) . I don't want the usual tourist traps unless they are genuine and fairly priced. I am looking for a store with mid to high level of service, but certainly more afforable than in Shanghai which is expensive. How long does it usually take to do the tailoring e.g. 2 days ? Appreciate any tips or comments to offer. Thanks.

Hello. In Suzhou, there is a street near Huqiu (Tiger Hill) where you can have tailor-made Qipao (Chinese name of the street: 虎丘婚纱一条街) at reasoanable prices. Another street you can go to si Shiquanjie (十全街),which has more expensive and quality ones. I think the tailoring needs at least 2 days to get the finished Qipao, but it all depends on the tailor. So I suggest you spare longer time. I think you can also ask the tailor to see if he/she can mail the Qipao to you, then there is no rush at all.

Hello. Every day there are many trains from Suzhou to Shanghai, so you don't need to book the tickets in advance. You simply need to buy the tickets at the ticket window when you get there or one day ahead of your expected departure date. The fastest trains (with initial letters G or D) take no more than half an hour to Shanghai, and lower trains (with initial letters K or T) take 1.5 to 2 hours. If you need tour services in Shanghai or in China, feel free to send us an email to service@chinahighlights.com, our travel advisors will reply within 24 hours.

There are many shops or stores providing tailor-made Qipao in silk along the streets in Suzhou. The price ranges from CNY300-CNY5000. Usually it takes about 3 days for tailoring. If you want it to be urgent, you can discuss with the boss to see if it is available by making extra cost. In addition, within the Suzhou No.1 Silk Spinning Mill, the silk is processed from worm to the final product, and tell the story of long history of Chinese silk. Many varieties of material and garments are displayed. There are finished Qipao available and the quality is said to be of middle and high level. The address is No.94 Nanmen road, Suzhou. Another recommendation is Suzhou Embroidery Institution. The address is No.272 Jingde road. Suzhou. Located in a very beautiful garden, the Embroidery Institute has an international reputation for its delicate needle work. The works of the embroidery Institute are often used by the government as official gifts to other countries. They provide demonstrations of see how embroidery is produced and turned into the fabric.

How will we get from Shanghai Railway Station arriving from Suzhou to Hongquio railway Station to go to Beijing, quickly?

Hello. 1. If you take train with T,D,K etc as the initial letter (EXCEPT G), the quickest way is to take a taxi if you have a tight schedule. It is about 16 km between the railway station and the airport, and it takes about 30 minutes to go only when there is not much traffic, the cost is about CNY50-70. If you have more time to kill, you may try bus No. 941 which requires 1-2 hours. Or you may try subway No. 1 first to People’s Square, then change to No. 2 to Songhong Road, take the bus 807 to the airport in about 10 minutes. 2. If you take train with the initial letter G, you will be very close to Hongqiao airport as the train will stop at Hongqiao railway station, which connects with terminal 2 of the airport. You will follow the signs and walk about 500m, then you will get to the first floor of terminal 2 of the airport. Follow the signs you will take the lift to the 3rd floor for the ticket hall. It takes about 10-15 minutes on foot. Hope the above information is clear, and feel free to send us an email (service@chinahighlights.com) of you have further inquiries or need tour services in China.
