You can take a taxi in the station, which would be the most convenient way to get to Beijing South Station from Beijing West Station. When you arrive at Tianjian Railway Station, you can go to the aviation building to take a shuttle bus to get to Tianjin Airport.

We need to travel from Chengde to Tianjin on 30 May but are unable to get a bus timetable (assuming bus is the easiest way to go). Can you help and which bus station in Chengde?
I checked it on internet, there is bus from Chengde Long distance bus station, there is a bus leaves at 8:50am , about 4 hrs'' drive to Tianjin.

You can go to the Tianjin Train Station to buy a ticket for the bullet train you want to take.

I suggest you take a bullet train from Beijing to Tianjin, which only takes you about half and hour to get to the destination.
