How to get the Travel Permit for Tibet?

Travel permits are issued by Tibet Tourism Administration. Applications require a copy of passport and Chinese visa, together with other information such as your occupation. The copy must be legible. Permits will be refused by Tibet Tourism Administration if the copy is illegible. The Tibet Tourism Administration reserves the right to refuse a permit to anyone persons in particular occupations e.g. journalists and those they suspect may have political motivations. Multi-entry travel Permits are not available. Your travel advisor will handle all aspects of obtaining your Tibet Permit. Travel to places other than those specified on the application is forbidden. The entry city to Tibet must agree with the city shown in the permit that has been issued. Differences in any detail will result in non-allowance of entry to Tibet. The Chinese government also requires that any tourist going to Tibet have to travel in group, and required to enter and leave Tibet in the same group. How to obtain a China visa in Nepal?

To obtain a China Visa in Nepal, you will need to allow about 4 days in Nepal for the visa application and Tibet permit to be processed. It takes at least 2 working days to obtain a visa from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Embassy only works on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You will need to use an authorized travel agency in Nepal to help with your application. When will I get my Tibet Permit?

Your Tibet Permit will be issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau after our local Tibet agent presents the Permit application together with a copy of your passport and China Visa. Our Tibet agent will send the original permit by express mail service to our local agent (or to your hotel) in the final city before arriving in Tibet. After your arrival in Tibet, the guide will collect the permit from you and he will return the permit to the Tibet Tourism Bureau. You will not need the permit again.

I have read that 2 dates; 27 September and 1 October are dates of anniversaries of difficult times in Tibet and that security may be tightened in these times. Could you please look into this for me?

How to go to Tibet from Nepal?

You can go to Tibet from Nepal by land or by air. It takes 5-6 hours drive from Kathmandu to Zhangmu Port by car, or 1 hour 10 minutes flying by plane. Tourists need a China visa and Tibet Travel Permit to enter Tibet. Tibet Travel Permit can only be obtained through a Chinese travel agency, with which you have booked a Tibet tour. How to get to Nepal from Tibet?

Many tourists choose to go to Nepal by land. Zhangmu Port is the border of Nepal and Tibet. Tourists can first go there and apply for Nepal visa upon arrival at Zhangmu Port.
