Dear Sunny,
The most memorable place we visited was the village high up in the mountains in Guizhou where indigo was being dyed and fabric being made. It was like an isolated paradise, beautiful in architecture, natural surroundings, and fascinating workmanship. Getting there was quite an experience too -- we were very grateful for Mr Yang's fantastic driving skills. Altogether an unforgettable adventure and outstandingly beautiful and peaceful. For me personally the best part of the trip was two afternoons where our wonderful guide Michael Liang arranged for me to meet Miao ladies who were embroidering and weaving (which are my hobbies) and sit with them to see them demonstrate their skills. We had a wonderful time which was very precious -- like having 'aunties' on the other side of the world! It has given me much inspiration and pleasure, and I will hope to come back to Guizhou.
Tour guide and driver: Michael Liang and Mr Yang are the best guide/driver imaginable, without question. They are kind, considerate, really pay attention to every detail their clients mention. They made great efforts so we could meet people doing the crafts we were interested in, made sure we were comfortable, and took every care with the hotel rooms and finding us great food. They listened to our questions and made everything go so smoothly. We cannot compliment them enough.
Definitely, we will recommend your company to our friends and we have done so before, and already doing so again!
Reocommendation for other travellers: We would highly recommend the Jinjiang Palace Museum in Guilin -- it is small but very well displayed and the guide gives an interesting commentary. It is not normally on the schedule for Guilin, but we found it was a very pleasant hour which added to our understanding of imperial China's history and culture. Caution: be careful about timing of Yangshuo trips -- namely, bike trip to/from Moon Hill does *not* take 40 mins return, as we were told: rather, it is at least 45 mins *each way*. On a hot day there is no point in climbing Moon Hill and if you do that as well as the bike ride, then the total time is about 4 hours -- our guide tried to start this trip at about 4 pm, which would have made it impossible to even have dinner at a decent hour that evening, not to mention leaving us hot and exhausted. We would have preferred to be given a choice of where and how long to bicycle -- to Moon Hill is just beside a highway so not so pleasant; maybe if some more country roads would have been better. Also there is no need to stay at a hotel in Guilin one night and in a hotel in Yangshuo one night -- better to stay in one place or the other for 2 nights as they are close enough to drive between.
