Finding a China Holiday

 

Hi Elaine,


Thanks for your e-mail. We have been back for almost a month now and we're still talking about what a wonderful time we had in China! We were sorry that we did not have time in Guilin to meet you. Guilin is such a wonderful city and we really enjoyed our visit there.


Most Memorable Attractions: Our whole trip was memorable but I would have to say that the most memorable attraction for me was the terraced fields in Longsheng outside of Guilin. I loved the day that we spent there.


Tour Guides: All of our tour guides were excellent, but my personal favorite was Tracy in Beijing. She was a lovely young woman, who had excellent English skills and she had a wealth of knowledge about Chinese history also. She was thoughtful and flexible and we thoroughly enjoyed the time that we spent with her. At one of our lunches I asked her about the particular spice that was in one of the dishes and she went out of her way to find out the name of it and at the end of our time with her, she gave me a bag of this particular spice (prickly ash). I was really touched by this kind gesture.


Hotels and Meals: The hotels were all quite excellent. Our favorite was the Salisbury YMCA in Hong Kong due to its excellent location and its amazing breakfast buffet.


We had a wonderful time, and saw so many things. We were glad that we had 18 days in China. One thing about our itinerary that we would probably change is that we might skip Hong Kong....we are not interested in shopping which seemed to be a big part of the attraction of Hong Kong. One day in Hong Kong would have been plenty of time for us to see what we wanted to see.

We would love to share some of our photos.....I think we took about 1000 pictures!!! Thank you, Elaine, for all the time that you spent working on our itinerary and arrangements. You made the details of our trip go very smoothly and we really appreciated that!
