June's Feedback on 4-Day China Tour

Activities were great fun. The staff concerts were wonderful, almost professional in design and execution. It was great to see what otherwise would have been hidden talent f the young people who served us. We also had fun in the Putongwha lesson, although I don’t think any of us could really hear or reproduce a correct tone!

Hi, Carol

Our Yangtze cruise was good!

The ferry trip through the Lesser Gorges was by far the most memorable. The scenery was magnificent. One could almost imagine what it must have been like thousands of years ago but it is hard to think of how people have lived in such a harsh environment – and still do.

I would certainly recommend China Travel. In fact, I have already done so. I found Carol, our agent, always helpful and every aspect of our trip that was conducted through the company worked well.

I also undertook to let you know what we thought of Yichang and the Crowne Plaza Hotel. You may recall that you thought it strange that we would want to spend time in Yichang rather than heading to a more tourist-oriented destination.

We loved the part of Yichang we saw. The hotel is a standard western-style hotel with a Chinese accent on décor in the public areas and a mix of Chinese and Western food at all meal times. Food and service were good. The rooms were like any international hotel, comfortable but not inspiring. It was nice, however, to have a soft bed in China!

The location of the hotel was wonderful – across the road from the River and from our room we could see a working part of the port so the view was ever changing and fascinating. The park that fronts the river is a delight and will be better if the trees grow enough to provide real shade from the hot summer sun. We spent both evenings there – strolling along the water, watching the dancing and tai chi and even interacting with the local people. The atmosphere was friendly, safe, and very welcoming to we ‘foreigners.’

We never made it into the city proper (about 3 km away) because we spent our time wandering about the area near the hotel. This was partly because were tired after more than two weeks walking about and partly because we enjoyed the area. Although we had no common language, we always managed to make ourselves understood when we needed to do so and the local people, shopkeepers and the like were warm and friendly. I can’t see why any tourist with an open heart would not enjoy Yichang. As with Chongqing we felt we could have seen some of the sights further away from the city if we’d had another day.
