The tour itinerary was exactly what we wanted and at each stage of the tour the guides were always there to meet us even when flights were delayed. It is very difficult to pick just one memorable attraction. In Beijing the visit to the Great Wall and spending a couple of hours walking along this great structure was fantastic. In Xian visiting the Terracotta warriors was amazing, when I visited this site 19 years ago there was only the one building and now it is so huge with museums and shops. The visit to EBC was interesting but the weather was not kind to us and we did not see the peak of Mount Everest.
The guide we had in Xian (Chyrel) was the most informative and helpful. She was so pleasant and friendly and her english was very good. She was better at operating our digital cameras than what we were and she took many good photos for us. The tour guide we had in Kathmandu for the two days was an independant guide (Gyanendra Karki) and he also was very good. All the drivers were very good and courteous, the vehicles were all very good and comfortable. The driver we had for the six days in Tibet was excellent and his driving skills on the off roads to and from EBC was very good.
The location of the Days Inn in Beijing was perfect as we could walk to Tianenmen square in the evening and watch the lowering of the flag. The Golden Flower hotel in Xian was excellent as I had stayed there 19 years ago and it was good to go back there again. All the other hotels and meals were good except when we found that the road to Shangmu was blocked due to landslides and the guide had to find a hotel in Nyalam. There were many tour groups in the same situation as us and the standard of hotels there were not very good. We did not do a lot of shopping, but did enjoy the visit to the Tibetan refugee camp in Kathmandu and saw rug making and Pashmina scarf making.
I was impressed with the professionalism of all the guides. In Xining we just had the guide for half a day but she (Gloria) was excellent and escorted us onto the train for Lhasa and took us to our cabin and made sure we were comfortable. I would certainly recommend China Highlights to any of my relatives and friends for any tour of China for a professional and value for money experience. The Peking roast duck dinner in Beijing was excellent and the Tang Dynasty show in Xian was superb.
