Dear Kevin,
In short, I was very pleased with my tours. I saw lots of sights, the tours were very well planned, the guides were all extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the guides in Shanghai and Xi'an were also very flexible and adaptable.
The main comment that I have is that as an individual person travelling on a tour, the tour was able to move at a much quicker pace that it would with a group (even a small one) given that there's no need to gather people together as you move through the tours, less frequent bathroom breaks, shorter breaks for meals, less time needed for shopping, etc.As a result, the pre-planned tour itinerary did not come close to filling the day on some of the days.
Fortunately, my tour guides in Shanghai and Xi'an were both extremely adept at adjusting the schedule accordingly and adding to my itinerary to fill the extra time so that I would still have full day tours and see even more sights and attractions that I had expected.
