Dear Supervisor,

At this stage of our travel planning we wish to stress out the excellency of the service rendered by your Karen Yang.

She responded promptly to our wishes and numerous changes of our four weeks travel with great efficiency !

We have been travelling all over the world for several decades and must admit we seldom met such a perfect professionnal skill.

We look forward with great expectancy to our travel.

CHINA-TIBET 04-31 MAY 2012.

OVERALL EVALUATION: the entire planning, organisation and execution merits a 5+! We enjoyed the complete program. Congratulations and thanks to Karen and China Highlights. You did a great job.

HOTELS: we enjoyed in particular the Buddha Zen in the middle of the pedestrian district of Qing yang, Chengdu. It changes from the classical, huge and noisy Sheratons and Marriott types. We strolled around the little eating places, the shops and antique dealers with pleasure.

RESTAURANTS: the food was good and the choice facilitated by your guides everywhere. We appreciated in particular the hotpot in La-an. Only the first day in Lhasa showed some confusion over our allowances.

GUIDES: all were very punctual, polite and helpful, knowing perfectly their job. Off course characters are different from the silent Lee in Xian to the talky Erica in Chongqing passing over the extremely friendly Tenzyn in Tibet, forgiving his special Tibenglish! An extra good mention for Lilly in the Chengdu etc. week and Charlene along the Jiuzhaigou valleys.

DRIVERS: all with no exception drove very carefully and with enormous skills through the sometimes crazy driving in particular over the mountain roads where some drivers take unbelievable risks, overtaking in curbs with no visibility at all. We saw two severe accidents, one a car on the roof with injured people lying across the road. An extra mention for the driver who took us on the sand and rocks trail up to the Chimpu meditation centres. A real champion!

EXCURSIONS: the best everlasting souvenirs: the panda feeding, the temples and steps on Mount Emei, the view on Yomdrok lake and the top: the three days trekking in the Jiuzhaigou valleys. In this respect we were not aware that upon arrival we started immediately to climb up to the 4200 m high Huanglong area and the long walk downwards. Thus our clothes and shoes were not adapted to the task!

CRUISE: I had some worry about it expecting a sampan type ship with a small cabin and perhaps no space for our suitcases. The boarding was impressive passing on this long floating bridge dancing on the river. To my surprise this Century Diamond was among the best cruising ships I encountered in my life, luxurious, welcoming, a large suite on the upper deck with balcony. The food and atmosphere was high. We shared our table with 3 couples from Arizona, Jakarta and Sydney. The crew showed a great sense of public relations going from table to table to have a toast! The director made a toast in Hungarian Kedves egeszsegedre which was greatly appreciated by Marie-Claire who is Hungarian. The crossing within the three gorges and the sampan-rowing last an unforgettable souvenir. Unfortunately the last day was spoiled by a change of weather poring rain and covering a thick fog over the river with a consequence that the locks were closed forcing us to quit the ship in the early morning to busses for the visit of the dam.

AIRLINES: no problems with the exception of the cancellation of the last day the flight from Yishang to Chengdu. This day 29 was really un lucky (although it contains a lucky number 29 = 9-2=7), after the very bad weather, the early wake up, we urged to the bus station to catch a bus to Wu Han for a flight to Chengdu, where we arrived at the hotel after one o’clock in the morning. A long and exciting day, finally well and efficiently re-organised thanks to the professional skills of Karen.

Also the guides in Yishang, Wu Han and Chengdu have to be thanked for their flexibility and kindness in this changing situation.

One last remark: when making the local flight arrangements it should be practical to inform about the group of airlines they belong to ( Sky team, Miles and More , World pass etc.) and to register our frequent flying mumbership numbers accordingly. It would save us time upon registration at the airport! And sometimes the opportunity to be upgraded like we had the pleasure on our return flight to Europe.

We’ll come back.

Marcel and Maria
