We had a great time in Inner Mongolia. We really liked our guide and driver. Rocky speaks excellent English! The area is beautiful and the people are very nice. We are telling all our friends and family how good this trip was.
Thanks and regards,
Ellen Wolf and family
Yes, we loved the grasslands and the desert, and I would go back and do it again! The grasslands were wonderful. I loved the whole yurt experience! The restaurant was great, the people were nice, the evening party and Mongolian music and entertainment were interesting, engaging and fun; So was the wrestling, horse racing --- everything was very memorable on the grasslands.
Rocky was outstanding. His English was excellent. He told many stories and explained a lot of things. He has a great sense of humor. Also, I liked how he arranged the schedule to avoid crowded restaurants. He also gave us options for the desert experience because it was very hot that day. We paid some extra money to have an easier time, taking various rides to get around instead of walking the whole time.
Our driver was clearly very experienced. He was able to drive through crazy traffic calmly and safely. He drove through bad weather without haste or panic. Also, he was always smiling and a pleasure to have around. We tried talking to him and we laughed and laughed. Our Chinese was very bad and he didn‘t speak English. Still we were laughing together. Rocky helped us communicate with the driver.
All the hotels and meals up to standard, except the yurt toilet had no water after a while. But it was so much fun to be on the grassland it was no big deal. Some of the restaurants we went to were a little strange, but we expected things to be different. The food was always good (BIG thanks to Rocky for ordering vegetarian food!!). Thanks to Rocky for always making sure we had plenty of bottled water!!! The food on the grasslands was excellent: simple but fresh and tasty.
We went to a Mongolian factory store. It was very big and we bought many souvenirs. However, we don’t shop all that much, so maybe some of your other customers can help you out more.
We ate dinner at the Chinese restaurant in the Erduos hotel by ourselves (no guide). It was so much fun. The people helped us with the menu. We also communicated with them with pictures drawn on a piece of paper. It was so much fun, because the people were so incredibly open and kind. We also had a super experience at an exercise park in Erduos (1 block away from the hotel). We exercised with the local people, took photos and had our photos taken, spoke English with a bunch of Chinese kids, and again laughed and played.
Tips: Don‘t be afraid to interact with the Chinese or Mongolian people. Go out, play and laugh and make contact. Go to an exercise park!
Our group consisted of my mother (age 71), me (49) and my children (14 and 19). We are of German origin, but live in the United States. Suggestion for future customers: tell them about the difference in toilets. Chinese toilets can be a problem for Westerns. All the hotel toilets were good, but sometimes a person has to go somewhere else. Just tell people to be prepared to squat; maybe tell them to bring toilet paper.
