Sorry for the delay in replying - I hope you didn’t think we weren’t going to! Right at the very end of our trip I got sick, and spent a miserable week when we got back. All OK now, but we’ve been trying to catch up with work etc. and are desperately busy. I’ll try to answer your questions, but they are surprisingly difficult to give precise answers to. This is really because the whole trip was absolutely fantastic, and there were SO many wonderful things to see an do, SO many wonderful people we met (including all the guides), that it is very hard to say which was the best. I’d rather just comment generally. And Pam may have different opinions from mine, so I won’t send this on till she has had a chance to comment also. Ross and I would like to commend China Highlights on our very enjoyable vacation to China. In particular we would like to comment on the organisation and efficiency with which the vacation tour was organised and executed. We were very impressed with the calibre of the tour guide personnel who met, greeted and accompanied us on our organised visits to the various cities and areas in our tour. They were all very knowledgeable about the regions that they covered and went out of their way to express that as far as they were concerned their area was a beautiful part of China. In particular we would like to commend Xin, our guide in Xi'an, for her personality and friendliness towards us. Her manner was delightful which made our time in her company extremely enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for her and we formed a relationship that was enjoyable, friendly and allowed us all to gain maximum benefit from our time in the Xi'an area. Hi Candy,
Dunhuang: All four of us were extremely happy with the guide and driver. Helen took us to the Sand Dunes very early in the morning. A very good advice since it got very hot nearer lunch time. She told us about the history of the Mogao Grottoes which complimented the wonderful tour we had through the different caves. The driver was very considerate by getting the car cooled down before we arrived back and drove to the next attraction. This is perfect service. The Hotel rooms were good. The Hotel overall was good. However, the breakfast was not to our liking. We are used to Chinese breakfasts by now but the selection offered by this Hotel was too different for us. Lunch was wonderful. Helen took us to a lovely restaurant which had both airconditioning and delicious food. The selection of the Xi'an and the Shanghai Hotels is very good.
