China Tourism Art Joy Festival

China Tourism Art Joy Festival is a festival held by China National Tourism  Administration and tourism departments of Guangdong Province in Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center every October. It aims to carrying forward the national spirit and revitalizing the folk art. During the festival, there are folk art performances from other provinces as well as those from foreign folk art groups. There are a great number of excellent programs with strong folk features.

History

China Tourism Art Joy Festival was first held in Guangzhou Oriental Land in 1987. Its original name was Guangzhou Joy Festival. In 1990 it was changed to "China Tourism Art Joy Festival" by the National Tourism Administration, National Ministry of Culture, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and other related departments, and became a nationwide tourist activity. Since 1998 the festival had been held in Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center.

Activities

During the festival, there are many folk performances and many activities concerning trade, tourism, arts and crafts. The folk performances are filled with strong artistic appeal and thought, and have attracted the attention of thousands of people. 

The colorful folk performances include folk song and dance, fire dragon dances, lion dances, and acrobatics.

Canton OperaCanton Opera is deeply rooted in Guangdong culture with a history of over 300 years. It is very popular in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asian Countries — a perfect combination of Canton folk songs, dragon-boat songs, and wooden knocker songs.

During Canton opera Canton songs are sung in Guangzhou dialects, which sounds beautiful and melodious.

How to Get There

Tianhe Sports Center is 8 kilometers (5 miles) east of the city center.

From Baiyun International Airport: By subway, walk 380 meters to South Airport Station, take line 3 to Guangzhou East Railway Station, then take line 1 to (Tianhe) Sports Center. Taking a taxi takes about 40 minutes and costs about 110 yuan.

From Guangzhou Bus Station / Guangzhou Railway Station: Guangzhou Bus Station is about 20 meters from Guangzhou Railway Station. Take subway line 2 at Guangzhou Railway Station to Gongyuanqian Station, then take line 1 to (Tianhe) Sports Center. The whole trip takes about half an hour.

By taxi it takes about 20 minutes and costs about 30 yuan.

From Guangzhou South Railway Station:The 25 kilometers to Tianhe Sport Center takes about half an hour and costs about 70 yuan by taxi.
