Reincarnation and Transmigration of Buddhas Warrior Attendant

  • Celebrated: May. 2 to May. 3
  • Location: Lhasa

Celebrated: May 2, 201 Buddha Warrior Attendant 4
Location: Lhasa
It’s said that Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, preached Paramadibuddha (one of Buddhist scriptures) after his enlightenment on the day, so monks get together on that day to commemorate it.
What’s on Offer
The Reincarnation and Transmigration of Buddha's Warrior Attendant Festival is held on the fifth day of the third month in the Tibetan lunisolar calendar. It is held to commemorate the first sign rotation of the Tibetan calendar, which took place in the Five Rabbit Year of CE 1027. On that day, 16 senior monks chosen by the Kalachakra Institute (a school of Lama) dance and chant sutras with bells in hands and mitres on heads to show their respects to Buddha and memory of Sakyamuni.
The festival is held in Drepung, the biggest temple of Tibetan Buddhism, where is full of Buddhist statues and murals, so visitors can fully appreciate mystery and solemn atmosphere of the Buddhist day.
