Q
How would one get permission to climb Cat Mountain? If this isn't possible, what mountains can be hiked in the region?
Asked by maureen wartski (Sep. 03, 2011) Reply
A Gavin (Sep. 05, 2011) replied:
Hello Maureen Wartski,

Permission for climbing Cat Mountain (Maoer Shan) is obtained by applying to the Maoer Shan Environmental Protection Management Office. I am currently in the process of applying to climb myself (I'm from the UK.). Contact me in 2 months if you still want to climb Maoer Shan and I will tell you how it went.

All the other mountains in the Guilin region, and indeed in the Guangxi Region, can be climbed without permission, as far as I know. I would recommend the mountains of Longsheng in the county just west of Cat Mountain. They are almost as tall, with rice terraces and minority villages.

Hi Raymond,

It is still Winter in Guilin in January, the temperature will be around 0 to 3 centigrade, but it is no problem to do the Li River Cruise, but water volune of the River is the lowest in the year.

There are many good food in Guilin like Beer Fish, mutton, Bamboo rice, hot pot, etc. And you could do some shopping in Yangshuo west street or Wayao wholesaler market.

Q
how to get there from hotel grand 0773
Asked by marini (Aug. 04, 2011) Reply
A Lussie Lu (Aug. 05, 2011) replied:
Dear Marini,

You can take a taxi to the scenic spot, it takes about 20 minutes and it costs about CNY20 (US$3) per car. Or you can take a bus at Yang Bridge Bus Station which is near Guilin Department Store and it's located at Zhongshan Middle Road. You can walk there from your hotel, it takes about 5 minutes. It takes about 40 minutes by bus and it costs CNY1 (US$0.16) per person. Sometimes there are a lot of people in the bus and there is no air-conditioner. It's not comfortable to take a bus.

Hi Colleen,

I guess you are talking about the electric cart in Yangshuo, Guilin. There are many routes in Yangshuo for electric carts, but the theme is the same--countryside views. The relaxing electric cart trip will ensure you fantastic views of orchards, fields, buffaloes, chickens and farmers on the way. By following the link below, you will see how it is like in the countryside, I will email you separately with a picture of the cart.
