Re-opening in 2010, the Fairmont Peace Hotel, overlooking Shanghai's Huangpu River, boasts a history that overshadows that of any other hotel in the Far East. In the 1930s—the grand hotel's golden decade—diplomats and celebrities from across the globe made its luxurious suites their home, and turned its lore into legend. The Fairmont Peace Hotel is located near the Bund, it is 3km away from the city center, 4km away from the Shanghai Railway Station, 16km to the Hongqiao Airport and 45km to the Pudong Airport.
The Fairmont Peace Hotel offers a total of 270 guest rooms of various types. All rooms are provided with broadband internet access and other service amenities. As for dining service, there are Chinese restaurant, western restaurant, cafe and bar in the hotel and meal delivery service is available. It's an amazing old building in the best location along the bund. The hotel is nicely renovated back to its original. The location is ideal - on Nanjian Road and the Bund. The Bund is a 2 mile boardwalk along the river. Very beautiful both during day and night. Down the road on Nanjian Road is the pedestrian mall - many shops and malls, western and local. There are local restaurants on each floor of the shopping malls. Chinese food at these restaurants were all very good. If you don't speak or read Chinese, the menus have pictures and the prices are listed in English, in Yuan. The Spa and fitness center were terrific. I used the fitness center almost every morning and it had a full range of equipment and plenty of space. Excellent breakfast buffet with beautiful view of the river.

This hotel has character. It has old world charm in its decor of marble, old dark stained wood, high ceilings and grand staircases. The room was quiet. Not your typical hotel room. The foyer floor was herringbone pattern of dark rosewood (not real rose wood, but it looked like it). The bedroom carpet felt and looked more like a plush rug. The ceiling had decorative molding. The Breakfast room has one of the most striking views of the river and the Bund below. Breakfast choices are good but not as expansive as I've had in other 5 star hotels. Best of all, this is a centrally located hotel in terms of shops, restaurants and walking along the Bund. Views at night are just beautiful. Get your walking shoes and camera ready !

The location is in the middle of the action, the view from the bund is amazing at night time and the metro is just a 5 minutes walk. All the parameters of the hotels are perfect. The jazz room was great for me but there is a cover of 100 RMB for a person during weekends and you'd better not order food there as the prices are ridiculous. Hotel is very historical - could use a renovation though. The staff - very attentive. Coming back after a day on the town felt like coming back to my home, not a hotel and that speaks for itself about this hotel. Would absolutely stay there again if ever in Shanghai.
