Hotel Overview

The hotel lies in the heart of the formerly German controlled (during China's "Colonial era", aka the period of the occupation of parts of China – especially parts of port cities – by eight foreign powers, including Japan and Russia, during the latter half of the 19th century/ the first quarter of the 20th century) Bund area, which area still reflects its German heritage, even if has subsequently been significantly modernized, including a precautionary "retro-fitting" against flooding. The hotel is about a 20-minute taxi ride from Hongqiao Airport and about a 40-minute taxi ride from Pudong Airport. It is also within walking distance of more than one local subway line.

The 22-storey Bund Hotel Shanghai has 252 air-conditioned guestrooms to choose from in a wide range of twin/double bed options, including standard and deluxe rooms as well as business class rooms. As something special, there are deluxe suites on the hotel's upper, executive stories. All rooms are fitted with a "workstation" desk, room safes for laptops and other valuables, a mini bar, and each room's luxuriously spacious bathroom features a separate bathtub and a shower. Cable and satellite television is standard in every room. In-room high-speed broadband access (both Ethernet and Wi-Fi) is available at a fee, while Wi-Fi access via hotspots throughout the hotel's public areas is free.

The Bund Hotel Shanghai has a café, a 24-hour Western restaurant and two dinner restaurants – in addition to 24-hour room service – and you can always serve yourself a complimentary cup of coffee in the hotel's comfortable lobby, where you can also find complimentary newspapers.? The Bund Cafe offers delicious Continental and American style food, a sumptuous buffet Monday through Saturday, and an unmissable Sunday brunch. The Western Restaurant – open round the clock – offers the typical range of popular, well-prepared Western entrees and side dishes.

The Flying-Elephant Russian Restaurant – located on the hotel's 3rd floor, and decorated in a traditional, plushly elegant Russian style – has pre-Soviet era "Russia" written all over it; not only can you partake of authentic Russian cuisine prepared by a Russian chef at the Flying-Elephant, you can savor your sumptuous meal to the accompaniment of genuine Russian folk- and classical music, performed by the "house's" Russian band.
Lastly, but not leastly, the Chong Yan Cantonese Restaurant serves the very best in Chinese cuisine, especially the internationally famous cuisine of the Shanghai-Guangdong area, Cantonese cuisine ("Canton" being the Anglicization of "Guangdong").

Recreational facilities include a spa (the Helen Huang Spa – and beauty salon – part of the international chain of Helen Huang Spas), a well-equipped fitness center, an aerobics room, a sauna with steam rooms, Jacuzzi pools, a massage room, a table tennis room, a billiard room, a chess room (the Russian influence?), and facilities of particular interest to the businessman such a meeting- and conference rooms, in various sizes, small to large, with the latest in audio-visual aids. Optional event catering in banquet halls of varying dimensions (seating up to 300 guests) is also available.

The hotel provides taxi and limo service as well as complimentary guest parking (self-parking, though valet parking is available at a fee). The hotel also offers child care for families with children. It must be stressed, however, that the hotel is neither handicapped accessible (though accessibility aids for the deaf are available) nor are pets – including seeing-eye dogs – allowed anywhere on the hotel's property.

A stay at the Bund Hotel Shanghai is like 'home away from home' – minus all the DIY hassles – for the busy business traveler who requires a relaxing oasis in which to "recharge his/ her batteries" in between those important business meetings and client contacts. The Bund Hotel Shanghai is of course also one of Shanghai's very best conference- and banquet hall venues.

With its round-the-clock friendly front desk service, its luxurious yet moderately priced accommodations, its ample recreational – and wellness – facilities and its focus on the wants and needs of the business traveler, the Bund Hotel Shanghai is the natural place to stay for a successful, memorable visit to Shanghai, whether strictly on a business visit or a visit that combines business with pleasure.

We stayed here for two nights during our recent trip and enjoyed the experience. The room was comfortable and the staff very friendly. The hotel is located about a dozen blocks from the Bund area on the river. Lots of shops are lined up and down the roads all around the hotel, which makes it a fun area to explore. I'd stay there again in the future if I were going to Shanghai.

Our stay at this hotel can be rated as excellent. Front desk staff and concierge all understood english and were very helpful. Our rooms were clean and neat and relatively spacious. We spent a total of 6 nights here. I would definitely choose this hotel again as it provided good value for money and this property is within walking distance of the People's Square metro station. I would stay at this hotel again in the future.

This hotel is very nice and a close walk to Najing Road, Peoples Park and the Bund. The beds are comfortable (better than most in China). WiFi is available only in the lobby (should be throughout the hotel in this class). The business center charges for computer use.
