Lhasa Weather in October

Lhasa National Holiday

The weather continues to cool down, with an average temperature of 8.8 °C (47.8 °F). The minimum temperature is 1.3 °C (34.3 °F) and the maximum temperature is 16.3 °C (61.3 °F). Days are sunny with low cloud cover.

Early October brings the Garma Ri Gi festival, and the best views. October 1 to 7 is the National Holiday week. During this period, more tourists visit Lhasa. Garma Ri Gi (the Tibetan Bathing Festival) is a mass activity throughout Tibet that takes place in the seventh month of the Tibetan Lunar calendar when Venus appears in the sky. It is an annual week-long festival with special Tibetan characteristics. Besides the Garma Ri Gi, the Ongkor Festival and the Great God Festival also fall during this month. There are many activities in the streets, squares, and at monasteries in Lhasa during these festivals.

Hotel rates are often higher than usual, and tourist attractions are crowded. If you are planning to visit Lhasa during this time, book your tickets in advance.

With a large temperature difference between day and night, please remember to bring long-sleeve shirts, a sweater, and an overcoat. Ultraviolet radiation is still strong, so wear sunscreen or sunglasses to protect your skin and eyes. Long-sleeve shirts, a sweater, and an overcoat are also recommended, as well as an umbrella.
