A new Chengdu – Frankfurt flight service will be launched by the Southwest Branch of Air China on May 19th, 2013. The opening of this new flight service will make Chengdu the third mainland city with  a non-stop connection with Frankfurt.

When the flight service opens, there will be three scheduled flights from Chengdu to Frankfurt available every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, with a flight duration of about 10 hours.

The flight number is CA431/2. From Chengdu to Frankfurt, the departure time and the arrival time are 01:30 and 06:10 respectively. On the return trip, the flight departs from Frankfurt International Airport at 14:00, and arrives at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 05:40. All the times are local times.

Currently, Chengdu has a flight service linking Chengdu and Amsterdam. Travelers traveling between Chengdu and Frankfurt need to transfer flight in Beijing, Shanghai, or Amsterdam, which takes 15–21 hours.

The advance sale of flight ticket has started, with a lowest price of 3,900 yuan (single ticket). Compared to a 3,710-yuan economy-class ticket which needs a flight transfer in Shanghai or Beijing, it seems that this new flight service has no price advantage. However, many people are optimistic for a possible markdown in the future.
