Chengjiang Fossil Site Accepted as World Heritage

Yunnan's Chengjiang Fossil Site was listed as World Heritage on July 1st, 2012. Now China's natural and cultural World Heritage sites total 43.

Located in Yuxi Prefecture, about 50 kilometers southeast of Kunming, Yunnan Province, southwest China, the Chengjiang Fossil Site covers an area of 512 hectares and contains evidence of about 196 prehistoric marine species.

It was discovered in 1984 and praised as one of the most amazing paleontological discoveries of the 20th century.
