Classroom Collapse Injures 11 Pupils in Sichuan
Eleven pupils were slightly injured Wednesday noon when a classroom collapsed at a primary school in Yuechi county of southwest China's Sichuan Province, local education authorities said Wednesday.
The wood-structured classroom of the Linxi town school suddenlycollapsed around 12 p.m. when 24 students inside were about finishing class. The broken beam was blamed for the accident.
The eleven injured, with only slight hurt on face or shoulder, have been sent to local hospital immediately, and the rest went back home, said Wang Wei, deputy secretary of the county's Communist Party Committee, on Wednesday evening.
Local authorities said, the collapsed classroom had already been in danger condition before the accident, and the school has been moving away students to new classrooms these days. All the schools in the county have been ordered to examine the buildings and facilities.
By press time, no death was reported and officials from provincial education bureau were on the way to the collapse site.
