Xinjiang to hold the Hemi Melon Tourism Festival

Hami in east Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in west China will hold its 4th Hami melon tourist Festival from July 16th to July 30 with a period of around half month.

Hami, a vibrant trade town on the ancient Silk Road, served as a cultural and economic exchange center between central China and the vast west frontiers for centuries. The region has been thrust into the tourism limelight in recent years for its diverse tourist resources featuring the inspiring landscape of Tianshan Mountain, glittering ethnic culture, ancient monuments and the fragrant Hami melon..

Arrangements of the event include a Hami melon carnival with more than 80 manners of melons providing to visitors to taste, folk songs reflecting the local flavor, stunt shows, and a beauty contest and so on.

"Hami" is the generic Chinese word referring to a group of crisp-fleshed winter melons. Hami melons produced in Xinjiang is characterized by fragrant smell and sweet and crisp taste. Moreover it has a high content of sugar.
