One billion RMB will be invested to protect famous historical cities, towns and villages in China
One billion Yuan will be invested to protect and repair the historical cities, towns and villages and the cultural relics. The news was issued by a official from the National Construction Department in the 2007 China Historical and Cultural Cities Year Meeting held in Changsha, Hunan province.
China's protection of the historical interest sites and cultural relics lagged behind the European and other developed countries for a few years. During the early days of the Opening and Reform Policy , China's historical and cultural relics were severely destroyed due to city construction. Hundreds of ancient walls and towers were pushed by the bulldozer to give way to construction of modern buildings.
According to an official from the Urban and Rural Planning Department, Ministry of Construction, the Chinese government and its people has recently realized the great importance and values of those ancient culture and the historical interests.
China now has 109 historical and cultural cities and 157 famous historical villages and towns. Protection of the historical and cultural relics has been called for first consideration during the urban expansion. From now on, the National Construction Department will put great effort to make relevant laws to ensure the protection in action.
1 billion RMB will be used carefully in promoting the continuous development of historic and cultural relics. China will find its own way to protect the historical interest and the cultural relics.
