IAAF World Challenge Beijing to Be Held May 21
The 2013 IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) World Challenge Beijing is going to be held in China's National Stadium (also known as the Bird's Nest) on May 21.
As a rehearsal of the 2015 IAAF WCA (World Championship in Athletics) that will be held in Beijing, IAFF World Challenge Beijing will have 232 athletes participating in it. 93 of the athletes are from overseas, including London Olympic 400m champion Kirani James of Genada, women's high jump champion Anna Chicherova, and Beijing Olympic 4×100m champion Asafa Powell.
19 events are scheduled for this year's IAAF World challenge, including the men's 100m, 200m, 800m, 110m hurdles, long jump, high jump, javelin, and 3000m steeple chase; and women's 100m, 200m, 1,500m, 100m hurdles, high jump, javelin, hammer, and shot put.
Three-hundred volunteers will be selected from Universities of China to help serve the event.
Prize money for all events: 440,000 USD, and 100,000 USD for athletes who break any current world record.
