Eating Laba porridge on Laba Festival

Yesterday is the Chinese traditional festival, Laba Festival which in Chinese, la means the 12th lunar month and ba means the eighth day.

There is an old Chinese saying said that eating laba porridge, and you won't have your chin bitten off by the cold. Laba porridge contains glutinous rice, red beans, millet, Chinese sorghum, peas, dried lotus seeds, red beans and other ingredients such as dried dates, chestnuts, walnuts, almonds and peanuts, etc.

In ancient times, Chinese people celebrate the festival to sacrifice their ancestor. They ate the porridge with the goal to keep healthy in that year. It was a very popular festival in ancient times. In today's China, Laba porridge has become a special food that enjoy by thousands of people.

According to the nutrition experts, Laba porridge is delicacy good for health. Yang Xiaoguang, a researcher at the Chinese Nutrition Society, said the "Westernized" diet contains too much energy and fat, and too little dietary fiber, which can lead to higher incidence of a variety of chronic disorders. So why don't eat more porridge to keep healthy today?
